Social Media February Updates: The Latest Changes You Need to Know

It’s that time of the month again, let’s catch you up on some of the biggest social media changes in February.

Instagram Tests Live-Stream Games to Enhance Engagement

Instagram’s testing out some new options to help spice up your live-streams in the app, with some live broadcasters now able to select a game that they can play with viewers in-stream.

Some creators now have the option to play either “This or That,” a question and answer prompt that you can share with your viewers, or “Trivia”, to generate more engagement within your IG live-streams.

This is a simple way to spark more conversation and interaction, which could then lead into further engagement opportunities from your live audience.

Is TikTok the new google?

TikTok’s looking to get more people searching for more stuff in the app, with new prompts that look to get users to download a dedicated TikTok Search shortcut that can then be added to their device Home Screen.

While a recent study has discovered that 51% of Gen Z women prefer using TikTok as a search engine as opposed to Google, it still has a long way to go until it can claim the search engine top spot. Google holds an impressive percentage of search engine users, 83.5% globally, to be precise.

So, just what will TikTok do next in pursuit of being number 1? Stay tuned…👀

Instagram Tests New Option to Preview Feed Post Placement Before Publishing

This could be handy.

Instagram is currently testing a new option with some users that enables you to view how your feed posts will look on your profile grid before you publish, so you can ensure that each update fits into your overall IG aesthetic.

Instagram adds ‘people you follow’ filter for DMs

Instagram has added a new DM filter option, which will enable you to filter your inbox to only messages from profiles that you follow in the app. The new “People you follow” option will enable you to prioritise DMs from only the profiles that you’ve chosen to follow, which could make it easier to prioritise personal connection.

And that is your monthly round-up.
